DIY String Bowl

We are going to visit Oma and Opa in Indonesia next month….

Carla and Renan wanted to give Oma and Opa a present, and we decided that a DIY string bowl would make a very nice present….

Our beautiful DIY string bowl is ready, and now we want to share with you how to make yours!

So, you need:

-A ball of string

-A medium sized bowl to be used as a mould

-White glue/school glue/craft glue

-A small bowl for the glue

-Plastic wrap

-Old newspaper to cover the floor.

Cut the long string to make shorter strings. You need around 12 strings, each should be around 100 cm long.

bowl4

Put some glue in the small bowl. Place the strings in the bowl, and knead them a bit so that they are completely coated with glue.

Cover the medium sized bowl with plastic wrap.

Now you can start wrapping the bowl with the strings. Do it one string at a time. Start at the base, and then place the string randomly over the bowl.

When you are done, press the strings down a bit to help them stick together so that your bowl wouldn’t fall apart.

Leave it overnight….

The next day, remove the string bowl from the mould, peel off the plastic wrap gently, and your DIY string bowl is ready! It’s quite strong, and you can put anything in it, just make sure not to put too many heavy things in it, otherwise it would sag.

Have fun makingΒ your DIY string bowl!
